An Anna’s Hummingbird is seen enjoying the blanket flowers that grow near my studio window. The zinnias will be blooming in just a few days and both the Black-chinned Hummingbirds and the Anna’s will dominate the flower garden. That is, until the Rufous’ show up!

During these trying times of COVID-19 we have looked deeper into nature for the beauty that is always there. On a sunny and cool spring day we hiked out to an overlook of Horse Tank Canyon, one of our favorite places for viewing this rugged Arizona canyon.

Vermilion Flycatcher. Small, energetic, brilliant, beautiful! This dynamic little gem ranges from the American Southwest all the way to Argentina.

Two of our favorite full time residents are the Ladder-backed Woodpeckers (small one at the top) and the Gila Woodpeckers. Here you can see them enjoying the nutritional benefits of a pecan tree.

We are starting off the New Year with the small and mighty Bridled Titmouse. This songbird is a permanent resident and has limited range in the US (mostly in Arizona).

A Yellow-rumped Warbler checking out the dried zinnias. During the summer, the colorful zinnias attract a huge variety of birds and butterflies!

Our winter visitors are arriving! The Mountain Bluebirds will grace the desert with their beauty during the coming months. November, 2019

We also have flocks of Western Bluebirds!

Maple trees grow in the upper coves and canyons of the Mogollon Rim in central Arizona. This fall has been exceptionally beautiful! October, 2019
